How to Apply Benchtop End Finishing
This guide shows how to apply end finishing to your benchtop using contact glue and the supplied end finishing strip.
Before you begin
You will need
Contact Glue
(aerosol or tube)
End Finishing Strip
Fine-Toothed File
Roller
Wooden Block + Rag
(alternative to roller)
Sanding Block
Glue Cleaner
(thinner / acetone)
Cleaning Rag
Spatula
(for tube glue)
Please note
Use glue and glue cleaner carefully and always follow the product instructions provided by the manufacturers.
-
Apply glue to both surfaces
Apply contact glue to both the benchtop edge and the back of the end finishing strip.
If using aerosol glue, apply two coats. If using tube glue, spread it evenly using a spatula.
-
Leave to dry for 5 minutes
Allow the glue to dry off for approximately 5 minutes before applying the end finishing strip.
Note: Drying time may vary slightly depending on the glue used, so always check the product instructions.
-
Apply the end finishing strip
Carefully line up and apply the end finishing strip to the benchtop edge.
Make sure it is centered correctly before it touches the glued surface.
Important: Once the contact glue touches, it will be impossible to move the strip, so position it carefully.
-
Apply pressure
Press the end finishing strip firmly into place using a roller.
Alternatively, use a wooden block with a soft backing such as a rag to apply even pressure.
-
Trim away the excess
Trim away any excess end finishing very carefully using a fine-toothed file.
Note: Work carefully to avoid damaging the benchtop edge or the applied strip.
-
Finish with a sanding block
Lightly finish the edge with a sanding block to smooth and refine the end finishing.
-
Clean off excess glue
Clean away any excess glue using a rag and glue cleaner.
