How to Join a Benchtop

Please see the video above for a demonstration.

You will need

  • Gorilla Grip Glue (supplied)
  • Spatula
  • 3 special toggle bolts (supplied)
  • 10mm open-ended spanner
  • Hammer
  • Wooden block
  • Glue cleaner (thinner/acetone)
  • Cleaning rag

Step 1

Slightly moisten edge before applying glue.

Note: open time is only 5 minutes, so you will need to work quickly.

Evenly apply glue and spread with spatula. Ensure good coverage of glue on top edge.

Step 2

Fit toggles from underneath. Use 10mm spanner to tighten.

Do not tighten too much at this stage, as you will need to check the levels and adjust.

Step 3

Using the hammer and block, gently tap until join is even.

Once sides are level, you can finish tightening the toggle bolts from below.

Step 4

Scrape off excess glue. Use the cleaning agent to remove all glue.

The glue will continue to ooze for the next 30 minutes. It is important to keep cleaning over this time.

Be very thorough with final cleaning as any leftover glue will be impossible to remove.

Step 5

Leave benchtop to set for at least 2 hours or overnight before moving.
